Study Shows How Slow Breathing Induces Tranquility...

Stanford scientists have identified a small group of neurons that communicates goings-on in the brain’s respiratory control center to the structure responsible for generating arousal throughout the brain.

Try it. Breathe slowly and smoothly. A pervasive sense of calm descends. Now breathe rapidly and frenetically. Tension mounts. Why?
It’s a question that has never been answered by science, until now.
In a new study, researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and their colleagues have identified a handful of nerve cells in the brain stem that connect breathing to states of mind.

Calm Is Not The Only Benefit to Slow Deep Breathing...

Deep breathing has been around for decades and the overall health benefits are amazing. Normal breathing is abdominal. The chest is enlarged when breathing in and when there is no constricting elements like tight clothing at the lower rib cage and waist, then the abdomen naturally expands and contracts with each breath.

This kind of breathing is beneficial to the health.  It gives the liver and all the abdominal organs a gentle message, and acts much like a mild tonic to the bowels and the stomach. This helps prevent constipation!

Slow deep breathing in this manner improves lung function and is a healthy remedy for cell development in your body! If breathing properly, from the abdominal area, the lungs are strengthened.

Shallow breathing, from the chest cavity, deprives the blood of the amount of oxygen needed to maintain optimum health, and it keeps the internal abdominal organs from getting the exercise this organism normally needs to keep from degenerating.

The technological changes in our society has lessened the daily activities that used to be the norm for the procurement of food, water and necessities of life. Instead of farming by hand, tractors are the norm, work is now in an office or a home-based business in front of the computer. Walking is replaced with driving, active outdoor games for the average youth is replaced with long hours of computer games, and the list goes on.

When this type of inactivity persists and becomes a way of life (the average American), shallow and sluggish breathing is the byproduct. A feeling of chagrin  comes over me when I think of all the times I knowingly opted out of exercising daily!

Our bodies are designed for physical exertion in order to maintain a healthy balance. Take advantage of opportunities to run, climb stairs, walk briskly to the point of breathlessness. As you exert your body you will find that you automatically breath deeply. Your body responds to vigorous exercise! You feel good afterward, more alive and positive.

Breathing deeply, outdoors, at least three times a day will start your increase of oxygen into your lungs and blood system. Inhale slowly through the nose and exhale just as slowly through the mouth, purposely emptying out your lungs as much as possible. Fresh air is a healthy remedy!

To be honest with you, sitting quietly indoors on a mat doing yoga is not necessary nor beneficial for the type of vibrant health that I am referring to! Your body needs vigorous activity and if done on a regular basis, your mental and emotional well-being can change for the better in a short period of time.

However, proper meditation on positive  truths, like the bible, positive affirmations, and inspirational materials in the quietness of your home is beneficial to your soul. To know that you are loved, that you were wonderfully made by an awesome creator for a specific purpose, and that your dreams are powerful and achievable, should be a life empowering! This improves your mental health and emotional well-being and necessary healthy remedy for life!

So too is the vital importance of breathing slowly and deeply, every day. Every chance you get when outdoors in the fresh air, it doesn't matter the weather, breathe deeply, slowly and deliberately. Your chest will begin to expand, your capacity for deeper breaths will increase!
It's amazing the difference in how you feel every day. The time of day doesn't really matter, morning, noon, and/or night whenever you can squeeze it in. You will find that proper breathing will become a habit.

Couple that with regular exercise and you will experience a great benefit to your health! Exercising properly, then automatically brings the proper abdominal breathing. All of these great benefits to your body are totally free!
